Why Does My Cat Have White Scales on It's Back?

Does my cat have dry skin? Does it have mites? Does it have a skin problem? Well maybe, but ask yourself: is my cat overweight?

Overweight and obese cats will always have poor hair coats and many times scales and mats on their backs and hips. Think about it. If your cat is too large to turn around and groom itself in those places, the cat cannot keep its hair coat smooth and cannot get the dead skin (scales) removed.

Older cats with arthritis will also have matted and scaly hair coats because they are too stiff and sore to groom.

Sick cats will have poor grooming habits and scales/ mats also.
